How Much Hair Do You Need For Boho Braids?
Written by the team at Sashé Amari, specialists in boho braid hair extensions.
Your full boho braid hair guide by size, length and fullness
At Sashé Amari, every install is built from two things: human hair bundles for the curl texture and blend packs for the braids. Get the balance right and the style moves. Get it wrong, and even good hair can look sparse.
What determines how much hair you need?
The right amount of hair comes down to two things:
Length
Boho Bob, Mid-back, Waist, or Bum-length finish.
The longer the length, the more hair you need.
Fullness
Light, Natural, or Full (Bora Bora full).
The fuller the look, the more bundles you need.
Fullness explained
Light: Mostly braids visible with small amounts of curls. Similar to goddess braids.
Natural: Mostly curls visible, but the braids still show through. A common choice if you're new to boho braids.
Full: Barely any visible braids. Looks almost like a curly weave install. Uses the most bundles of human hair.
All three are equally easy to maintain with good-quality human hair
The Boho Braid Hair Guide
Use this table as your starting point. Counts are based on Smedium braid size, the most popular choice.
| Length | Light | Natural | Full |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boho Bob | 1 bundle + 2 blend packs | 2 bundles + 2 blend packs | 3 bundles + 2 blend packs |
| Mid-back | 2 bundles + 2 blend packs | 3 bundles + 2 blend packs | 4 bundles + 3 blend packs |
| Waist | 2 bundles + 3 blend packs | 3 bundles + 3 blend packs | 4 bundles + 3 blend packs |
| Bum length | 3 bundles + 3 blend packs | 4 bundles + 3 blend packs | 5 bundles + 4 blend packs |
This is a guide, not a guarantee. Exact amounts vary based on your natural hair density, braid size, and how your stylist sections the hair. Use our install guide
Small braids: reduce blend packs by 1 at Bob and Mid-back lengths
Medium braids: add 1 bundle at Bob length; add 1 synthetic braiding hair pack at Mid-back and above
Texture and colour: do not affect the count. Natural Wave and Soft Wave use the same amounts across all colours
If you are between fullness levels, size up. You can style down. You cannot add curl density after installation.
- The amount of hair you need for boho braids depends on your desired length and fullness.
- The three fullness levels are Light (more braids than curls, similar to goddess braids), Natural (mostly curls, the most popular choice), and Full (almost no visible braids, like a curly weave install).
- With good quality human hair, all three fullness levels are equally easy to maintain. Choose the look you love rather than playing it safe.
- The simplest way to get the right amount is to buy a complete styled set, where bundles and pre-stretched braiding hair are pre-calculated for the look.
Buy The Right Amount
Sashe Amari makes the math easy with complete styled sets, where the bundles and pre-stretched braiding hair are pre-calculated for the look you've chosen. No guesswork. No shortfall. No waste.
